SHAKER

SHAKER by RIKKE FALKOW is the essence of classic craftsmanship and timeless design. The Shakers’ craftsmanship expresses the original ideals of purity, order, and durability, and the more than 250-year-old design continues to remain relevant.

The Shakers were an American religious sect founded in the 18th century by the Englishwoman Ann Lee. They are known for their unique way of life, based on equality and community, for the quality and simplicity of their craftsmanship, and for their worship through dancing. Today, Shaker communities exist as museums, and their unique furniture and craftsmanship have been preserved. The Shakers focused on purity and simplicity in all aspects of life and had, among other things, thorough cleaning routines in the home. They lived by strict routines, which, among other things, dictated that things should be put away immediately. Their craftsmanship supported the need for order and cleanliness. Today, Shaker furniture and accessories are still produced according to the original drawings and traditional methods. The more than 250-year-old Shaker design remains just as relevant today—clean lines and simple design are timeless.
